Context Part 1

Over the next 6 months as I travel I may be referencing some different things that may be helpful to know.  I thought it would be good for me to tell you some more details about my job and also to introduce you to my cast, who will be my friends and family and characters on this blog.  First let me tell you exactly what I'm doing.  I'll be performing in a cast of 7 (5 singers and 2 dancers) on the Seabourn Sojourn cruise ship for 3 months, followed by the Holland America Amsterdam for 3 months.  We will be the main entertainers on these ships, performing 5 production shows, along with smaller concerts and cabaret style performances.  We are working for a production company called Belinda King Creative Productions that is based in Northampton, England.  So we traveled here to Northampton for rehearsals before boarding the ship and traveling the world.  Here's a little description of the 5 shows

NIGHTLIFE
Filled with all kinds of dance tunes, disco hits, and songs you just know and love, this show is all about getting the audience ready for a party.  We perform everything from Whitney Houston to Dusty Springfield to George Michael.

IRISH SOUL
This has become one of my favorite shows.  It has a really great folk feel to it.  We have big hits from groups like The Corrs and U2, and Van Morrison, plus classic Irish folk songs.  It's a casual show with some really beautiful moments.

TIMELESS
My other favorite show, the concept is to perform old songs that we all know and love, but do them in brand new ways.  The arrangements are all inspired by artists like Michael Buble and Jamie Cullum, but there are songs from theatre, jazz standards, Elton John, etc. that have all been flipped on their heads.  It's a lot of fun.

LET'S GET IT ON
For the fun factor, we go to this show.  It's a set of songs all about love that are so sexy and fun.  It makes for a really fun night when you get to listen to Hall and Oates, Michael Jackson, Temptations, and Joe Cocker.

SEABOURN SESSIONS
Step into a recording studio mode for this last show.  With a grand piano center stage, it's a laid back jam session.  I get to play piano a lot in this show, which is always fun.  We cover everything from Billy Joel to Alicia Keys to Randy Newman.  This is a musician's dream show with such variety and focus on the music.

I have been so happy to work on all of these shows.  It's been incredibly challenging to cover such a wide range of music and SO MUCH music.  We are singing tight harmonies and I can't remember ever having to learn so many lyrics!  Ha ha!  Plus, these songs tend to be so iconic, so you really have a job to do, to stand up and pay tribute to the original.  It's been a blast, but a lot of work, as well.
Next, I wanted to introduce you to my amazing cast.  That will be coming up in part 2!

Love you all.  This is my last post from Northampton, as we fly to America to board the ship tomorrow!

Thank you for the show descriptions! I will be trying to imagine them as you travel. Timeles and Seabourne Sessions would be my favorites, followed by the Irish one. They all sound fun though! Glad you're on the ship, in your room, with your very own PORTHOLE!!! YAY! We love you and miss you every day! Bon voyage!!!
